- VBT information: The link from 01.org is dead, but appears to have
been identical to the i915 page in the Linux kernel docs based on
snapshots on archive.org.
- Cgit: coreboot no longer has cgit running for the repos it hosts,
and these links redirect to the Gitiles list of repos hosted on
review.coreboot.org. Based on snapshots on archive.org, these used
to link to the individual repo or tree. Replace these with an
equivalent Gitiles link.

coreboot uses TianoCore interchangeably with EDK II, and whilst the
meaning is generally clear, it's not the payload it uses. EDK II is
commonly written as edk2.
coreboot builds edk2 directly from the edk2 repository. Whilst it
can build some components from edk2-platforms, the target is still
edk2.

We have too many acronyms to keep track of. At one point, AMD and
Intel used to use the same terms for things, but no longer. When I
look at Intel patches now, I have no idea what they mean anymore.
When I started trying to do the release notes, I kept having to
look up the acronyms, so I figured I'd make a list.

Some mainboards need a mainboard-specific mechanism to access option
values. Allow mainboards to implement the option API. Also, add some
documentation about the current option API, and describe when should
one reimplement the option API in mainboard code: only when the code
is mainboard-specific to comply with externally-imposed constraints.

Add an option to ifdtool which validates that the flash regions defined
in the descriptor match the coresponding areas in the FMAP.

devs. "Rookie guide" refers to the reader, while "tutorial" refers
to the material.

3. (Optional) enable LPC I/O decode for the given address.
Tested on Wedge100s.

The Flashmap (FMAP) was not clearly documented. The new flashmap.md
explains where to find more details about that and how / why it was used
in coreboot. Also explained what is FMD and how to use it (based on
original README.fmaptool).

We already had such a page on the wiki, but it's outdated and the wiki
is supposed to go the way of the dodo anyway.
This is a fresh start to make sure that all ideas we're coming up with
are still current and that there are mentors willing to support them.

This adds the release notes for all of our old releases that have notes
to the documentation directory. The release notes for the next release,
4.9 is added here as well.
I would request that people document their changes for the next release
themselves if they wish them to be in the release notes.
