The function to read board IDs from tristate GPIOs currently supports
two output modes: a normal base-3 integer, or a custom format where
every two bits represent one tristate pin. Each board decides which
representation to use on its own, which is inconsistent and provides
another possible gotcha to trip over when reading unfamiliar code.
The two-bits-per-pin format creates the additional problem that a
complete list of IDs (such as some boards use to build board-ID tables)
necessarily has "holes" in them (since 0b11 does not correspond to a
possible pin state), which makes them extremely tricky to write, read
and expand. It's also very unintuitive in my opinion, although it was
intended to make it easier to read individual pin states from a hex
representation.
This patch switches all boards over to base-3 and removes the other
format to improve consistency. The tristate reading function will just
print the pin states as they are read to make it easier to debug them,
and we add a new BASE3() macro that can generate ternary numbers from
pin states. Also change the order of all static initializers of board ID
pin lists to write the most significant bit first, hoping that this can
help clear up confusion about the endianness of the pins.

We've had gpiolib.h which defines a few common GPIO access functions for
a while, but it wasn't really complete. This patch adds the missing
gpio_output() function, and also renames the unwieldy
gpio_get_in_value() and gpio_set_out_value() to the much easier to
handle gpio_get() and gpio_set(). The header is renamed to the simpler
gpio.h while we're at it (there was never really anything "lib" about
it, and it was presumably just chosen due to the IPQ806x include/
conflict problem that is now resolved).
It also moves the definition of gpio_t into SoC-specific code, so that
different implementations are free to encode their platform-specific
GPIO parameters in those 4 bytes in the most convenient way (such as the
rk3288 with a bitfield struct). Every SoC intending to use this common
API should supply a <soc/gpio.h> that typedefs gpio_t to a type at most
4 bytes in length. Files accessing the API only need to include <gpio.h>
which may pull in additional things (like a gpio_t creation macro) from
<soc/gpio.h> on its own.
For now the API is still only used on non-x86 SoCs. Whether it makes
sense to expand it to x86 as well should be separately evaluated at a
later point (by someone who understands those systems better). Also,
Exynos retains its old, incompatible GPIO API even though it would be a
prime candidate, because it's currently just not worth the effort.

This patch adds an mmu_config_range_kb() function, which can set memory
types at the 4KB level by chaining a fine-grained page table to an
existing superpage entry. It is only intended for special cases where
this level of precision is really necessary and therefore comes with a
few practical limitations (the area for each invocation must be confined
within a single superpage, and you are not allowed to remap the same
region with mmu_config_range() again later). Since the fine-grained page
tables need some space, boards intending to use this feature must define
a TTB_SUBTABLES() region in their memlayout.ld.

This patch creates a new mechanism to define the static memory layout
(primarily in SRAM) for a given board, superseding the brittle mass of
Kconfigs that we were using before. The core part is a memlayout.ld file
in the mainboard directory (although boards are expected to just include
the SoC default in most cases), which is the primary linker script for
all stages (though not rmodules for now). It uses preprocessor macros
from <memlayout.h> to form a different valid linker script for all
stages while looking like a declarative, boilerplate-free map of memory
addresses to the programmer. Linker asserts will automatically guarantee
that the defined regions cannot overlap. Stages are defined with a
maximum size that will be enforced by the linker. The file serves to
both define and document the memory layout, so that the documentation
cannot go missing or out of date.
The mechanism is implemented for all boards in the ARM, ARM64 and MIPS
architectures, and should be extended onto all systems using SRAM in the
future. The CAR/XIP environment on x86 has very different requirements
and the layout is generally not as static, so it will stay like it is
and be unaffected by this patch (save for aligning some symbol names for
consistency and sharing the new common ramstage linker script include).

This patch adds the macros __ROMSTAGE__ and __RAMSTAGE__ which get
predefined in their respective stages by make, so that we have one
specific macro for every stage. It also renames __BOOT_BLOCK__ and
__VER_STAGE__ to __BOOTBLOCK__ and __VERSTAGE__ for consistency.
This change is intended to provide finer control and clearer
communication of intent after we added a new (optional) stage that falls
under __PRE_RAM__, and will hopefully provide some robustness for the
future (we don't want to end up always checking for romstage with #if
defined(__PRE_RAM__) && !defined(__BOOT_BLOCK__) &&
!defined(__VER_STAGE__) && !defined(__YET_ANOTHER_PRERAM_STAGE__)). The
__PRE_RAM__ macro stays as it is since many features do in fact need to
differentiate on whether RAM is available. (Some also depend on whether
RAM is available at the end of a stage, in which case #if
!defined(__PRE_RAM__) || defined(__ROMSTAGE__) should now be
authoritative.)
It's unfeasable to change all existing occurences of __PRE_RAM__ that
would be better described with __ROMSTAGE__, so this patch only
demonstratively changes a few obvious ones in core code.

Two weak functions were added so that architecture specific operations
on each segment of payload or stage can be performed.
Each architecture must define its own operations, otherwise the
behavior will default to do-nothing functions.
This patch has been updated by to fit more in line with
how program loading is currently being done. The API is the
same as the original, but all call sites to stages/payloads
have been updated. This is known to break any archs that use
rmodule loading that needs cache maintenance. That will be fixed
in a forthcoming patch. Also, the vboot paths are left as is
for easier upstreaming of the rest of the vboot patches.

Some platforms use tertiary interpretation of GPIO input state to
increase number of distinct values represented by a limited number of
GPIOs. The three states are
- external pull down (interpreted as 0)
- external pull up (1)
- not connected (2)
This has been required by Nvidia devices so far, but Exynos and
Ipq8086 platforms need this too.
This patch moves the function reading the tertiary state into the
library and exposes the necessary GPIO API functions in a new include
file. The functions are still supposed to be provided by platform
specific modules.
The function interpreting the GPIO states has been modified to allow
to interpret the state either as a true tertiary number or as a set
two bit fields.
Since linker garbage collection is not happening when building x86
targets, a new configuration option is being added to include the new
module only when needed.

The GCC 4.9.2 update showed that the boot_state_init_entry
structures were being padded and assumed to be aligned in to an
increased size. The bootstate scheduler for static entries,
boot_state_schedule_static_entries(), was then calculating the
wrong values within the array. To fix this just use a pointer to
the boot_state_init_entry structure that needs to be scheduled.
In addition to the previous issue noted above, the .bs_init
section was sitting in the read only portion of the image while
the fields within it need to be writable. Also, the
boot_state_schedule_static_entries() was using symbol comparison
to terminate a loop which in C can lead the compiler to always
evaluate the loop at least once since the language spec indicates
no 2 symbols can be the same value.

x86 systems run their romstage as execute-in-place from flash, which
prevents them from having writable data segments. In several code pieces
that get linked into both romstage and ramstage, this has been worked
around by using a local variable and having the 'static' storage class
guarded by #ifndef __PRE_RAM__.
However, x86 is the only architecture using execute-in-place (for now),
so it does not make sense to impose the restriction globally. Rather
than fixing the #ifdef at every occurrence, this should really be
wrapped in a way that makes it easier to modify in a single place. The
chromeos/cros_vpd.c file already had a nice approach for a wrapper
macro, but unfortunately restricted it to one file... this patch moves
it to stddef.h and employs it consistently throughout coreboot.

from a chromium patch, which moved ALTCENTURY to Kconfig. However,

This patch adds I2C emulation in software through raw toggling of the
SDA/SCL lines. Platforms need to provide bindings to toggle their
respective I2C busses for this to work (e.g. by pinmuxing them as GPIOs,
currently only enabled for Tegra).
This is mostly useful as a debugging feature, to drive unusual states on
a bus and closely monitor the device output without the need of a bus
analyzer. It provides a few functions to "wedge" an I2C bus by aborting
a transaction at certain points, which can be used to test if a system
can correctly recover from an ill-timed reboot. However, it can also
dynamically replace the existing I2C transfer functions and drive
some/all I2C transfers on the system, which might be useful if a driver
for the actual I2C controller hardware is not (yet) available.
Based on original code by Doug Anderson <dianders@chromium.org> and
Hung-ying Tyan <tyanh@chromium.org> for the ChromeOS embedded
controller project.

This severs a dependency the eventlog code has on initializing
chipset/SoC SPI controller. Currently elog_init() calls spi_init()
as a catch-all. This worked for x86 since the SPI controller is only
used for one thing on existing platforms. As we add eventlogging
support to non-x86 platforms we need to consider the more generalized

The new API is in use in depthcharge and is based around the "i2c_transfer"
function instead of i2c_read and i2c_write. The new function takes an array of
i2c_seg structures which represent each portion of the transfer after a start
bit and before the stop bit. If there's more than one segment, they're
seperated by repeated starts.
Some wrapper functions have also been added which make certain common
operations easy. These include reading or writing a byte from a register or
reading or writing a blob of raw data. The i2c device drivers generally use
these wrappers but can call the i2c_transfer function directly if the need
something different.
The tegra i2c driver was very similar to the one in depthcharge and was simple
to convert. The Exynos 5250 and 5420 drivers were ported from depthcharge and
replace the ones in coreboot. The Exynos 5420 driver was ported from the high
speed portion of the one in coreboot and was straightforward to port back. The
low speed portion and the Exynos 5250 drivers had been transplanted from U-Boot
and were replaced with the depthcharge implementation.

This fixes two problems with the clock configuration on tegra124. First, the
macro which set up the i2c clocks tried to account for the fact that the i2c
divisor's lsb represents 1.0 where it normally represents 0.5 by multiplying
the target frequency by 2. That doesn't work, unfortunately, because the
divisor is actually n + 1, and what n + 1 means depends on where the one's
place is in the divisor.
Also, when calculating the divisor, the standard C division operator uses
truncation to deal any remainder which tends to make the divisor smaller. That
has the effect of making the output frequency higher than what was requested.
Since it's usually safer to undershoot a frequency than overshoot it, this
change makes those divisions round up instead.
Finally, the hand tuned temporary UART clock configuration was adjusted so
that it still ends up with the same divisor. Without that, very early output
from the bootblock is garbled, specifically the coreboot welcome banner,
build timestamp, etc.

Old routine copied all of CAR region as-is right below CONFIG_RAMTOP.
Most of this region was reserved to interleave AP CPU address spaces
and unused on BSP CPU. The only part of CAR region requiring a copy
in RAM is the sysinfo structure.
Improved routine changes this as follows:
A region of size 'backup_size' below CONFIG_RAMTOP is cleared. In
case of S3 resume, OS context from this region is first copied to
high memory (CBMEM_ID_RESUME).
At stack switch, CAR stack is discarded. Top of the stack for BSP
is located at 'CONFIG_RAMTOP - car_size' for the remaining part
of the romstage. This region is part of 'backup_size' and was zeroed
before the switch took place.
Before CAR is torn down the region of CAR_GLOBALS (and CAR_CBMEM),
including the relevant sysinfo data for AP nodes memory training,
is copied at 'CONFIG_RAMTOP - car_size'.
NOTE: While CAR_GLOBAL variables are recovered, there are currently
no means to calculate their offsets in RAM.
NOTE: Boards with multiple CPU packages are likely already broken since
bbc880ee amdk8/amdfam10: Use CAR_GLOBAL for sysinfo
This moved the copy of sysinfo in RAM from above the stack to below
the stack, but code for AP CPU's was not adjusted accordingly.

really for managing the CMOS storage. Since we intend to add a generic API
for RTC drivers it's inconvenient for those functions to have an rtc_ prefix.
This CL renames those functions so they start with cmos_ instead. There are
some places where rtc_init was called with a comment that says something about
starting the RTC. That wasn't correct before (the RTC is always running), but
it looks a little odd now that the function is called cmos_init.

This patch adds a new static assertion macro that can be used to check
the offsets in structures that overlay register sets at compile time. It
uses the _Static_assert() declaration from the new ISO C11 standard,
which is supported (even without -std=c11) by GCC after version 4.6.
(There is supposedly also support in clang, although I haven't tried
it... let's deal with compiler issues when/if they turn up.)
I've added it to all structures for our current ARM SoCs for now, and I
think every new register overlay we add going forward should use them
(at least for the last member, but feel free to add more if you think
it's useful).

There are ARM systems which are essentially heterogeneous multicores where
some cores implement a different ARM architecture version than other cores. A
specific example is the tegra124 which boots on an ARMv4 coprocessor while
most code, including most of the firmware, runs on the main ARMv7 core. To
support SOCs like this, the plan is to generalize the ARM architecture so that
all versions are available, and an SOC/CPU can then select what architecture
variant should be used for each component of the firmware; bootblock,
romstage, and ramstage.

ARM: Split out ARMv7 code and make it possible to have other arch versions.
We don't always want to use ARMv7 code when building for ARM, so we should
separate out the ARMv7 code so it can be excluded, and also make it possible
to include code for some other version of the architecture instead, all per
build component for cases where we need more than one architecture version
at a time.
The tegra124 bootblock will ultimately need to be ARMv4, but until we have
some ARMv4 code to switch over to we can leave it set to ARMv7.

Peppy had some issues with FUI. We decided it was time to create
peppy-specific gma.c and i915io.c files. Using yabel and the i915tool,
we generated a replay attack, then interpolated against the slippy
i915io.c to get something working.
Also, in preparation for moving code out of the mainboard gma.c to
generic driver code, we got rid of some hardcodes in the mainboard
gma.c that have no business being there. The worst were the
computation of gmch_[m,n] and it turns out that we had some
long-standing bugs related to confusion about 'bpp'. I've killed the
word bpp everywhere I could because there are at least 3 things that
correspond to bpp. We now have framebuffer, pipe, and panel bpp. The
names are long because I want to avoid all the mistakes we've all been
making in the last year :-) Sadly, that means a lot of changes not just
peppy-related, but they are simple and in a good cause.
The test pattern generation is driven by a global variable in
mainboard/peppy/gma.c. I've found in the past that it's very useful
to have a function like this available, as one can activate it while
using a jtag debugger: halt at the right place in ramstage, set the
variable to 1, continue. It's not enough code to worry about always
including.
The last hard-codes for M and N registers are gone, and the function
to set from generic intel_dp.c code works. To avoid screen trash on a
dev mode boot, which we liked but nobody else did :-), we now take the
time to put a pleasing background color that sort of doubles as a
power LED.
Rough timing is ramstage start is at 2.2, and dev setup is done at
3.3. These new platforms are depressingly slow to boot. Rom init alone
is taking 1.9 seconds. 13 years ago it was 3 seconds from power on to bash
prompt. These CPUs are at least 10x faster and take much longer to get going.
Future work, once we get this through, is to move more functions to the
intel driver, and combine the mainboard i915io.c into the mainboard gma.c.
That separation only existed because i915io.c was generated by a tool, and it
had lots of ugliness. Most ugliness is gone.

This patch adds a mechanism to set aside a region of cache-coherent
(i.e. usually uncached) virtual memory, which can be used to communicate
with DMA devices without automatic cache snooping (common on ARM)
without the need of explicit flush/invalidation instructions in the
driver code.
This works by setting aside said region in the (board-specific) page
table setup, as exemplary done in this patch for the Snow and Pit
boards. It uses a new mechanism for adding board-specific Coreboot table
entries to describe this region in an entry with the LB_DMA tag.
Libpayload's memory allocator is enhanced to be able to operate on
distinct types/regions of memory. It provides dma_malloc() and
dma_memalign() functions for use in drivers, which by default just
operate on the same heap as their traditional counterparts. However, if
the Coreboot table parsing code finds a CB_DMA section, further requests
through the dma_xxx() functions will return memory from the region
described therein instead.

Unfortunately coreboot has to deal with ROMCC's short comings which has
lead to a little bit of confusion due to typedefs. Essentially, coreboot
defines four typedefs:
* 'typedef struct device * device_t' in ramstage not in SIMPLE_DEVICE mode
* 'typedef u32 device_t' in romstage or when SIMPLE_DEVICE is defined
* 'typedef u32 pnp_devfn_t'
* 'typedef u32 pci_devfn_t'
Some early functions make use of 'device_t' over 'pci_devfn_t' and since
the C type-checker does not enforce typedefs to the same type 'u32'
these are never noticed. Fix these so that 'device_t' does not conflict
in romstage for later work. We later plan to have 'pnp_devfn_t' and
'pci_devfn_t' as the only variants of 'u32' and 'device_t' to be a
struct pointer type exclusively.

The PCI Specification states that devices that implement
a bridge and a secondary bus must swizzle (rotate) the
interrupt pins according to the table below:
Child Dev # Child PIN Parent PIN
0,4,8,12... A/B/C/D A/B/C/D
1,5,9,13... A/B/C/D B/C/D/A
2,6,10,14.. A/B/C/D C/D/A/B
3,7,11,15.. A/B/C/D D/A/B/C
Which is also described by this equation:
PIN_parent = (Pin_child + Dev_child) % 4
When a device is found and its bus number is greater than 0,
it is on a bridge and needs to be swizzled. Following the
string of parents up to the root bus and swizzling as we go
gives us the desired swizzling result. When BIOS_SPEW is
defined, it will print out each step of the swizzling process.

Make all three coreboot stages (bootblock, romstage and ramstage) aware of the
architecture specific to that stage i.e. we will have CONFIG_ARCH variables for
each of the three stages. This allows us to have an SOC with any combination of
architectures and thus every stage can be made to run on a completely different
architecture independent of others. Thus, bootblock can have an x86 arch whereas
romstage and ramstage can have arm32 and arm64 arch respectively. These stage
specific CONFIG_ARCH_ variables enable us to select the proper set of toolchain
and compiler flags for every stage.
These options can be considered as either arch or modes eg: x86 running in
different modes or ARM having different arch types (v4, v7, v8). We have got rid
of the original CONFIG_ARCH option completely as every stage can have any
architecture of its own. Thus, almost all the components of coreboot are
identified as being part of one of the three stages (bootblock, romstage or
ramstage). The components which cannot be classified as such e.g. smm, rmodules
can have their own compiler toolset which is for now set to *_i386. Hence, all
special classes are treated in a similar way and the compiler toolset is defined
using create_class_compiler defined in Makefile.
In order to meet these requirements, changes have been made to CC, LD, OBJCOPY
and family to add CC_bootblock, CC_romstage, CC_ramstage and similarly others.
Additionally, CC_x86_32 and CC_armv7 handle all the special classes. All the
toolsets are defined using create_class_compiler.
Few additional macros have been introduced to identify the class to be used at
various points, e.g.: CC_$(class) derives the $(class) part from the name of
the stage being compiled.
We have also got rid of COREBOOT_COMPILER, COREBOOT_ASSEMBLER and COREBOOT_LINKER
as they do not make any sense for coreboot as a whole. All these attributes are
associated with each of the stages.
