to handle the hierarchy of cpus/clusters within the SoC.
The nodes within PSCI are kept in a tree as well as
a depth-first ordered array of same tree. Additionally,
the PSCI states are now maintained in a hierachal manner.
OFF propogates up the tree as long as all siblings are
set to OFF. ON propogates up the tree until a node is
not already set to OFF.
The SoC provides the operations for determining how many
children are at a given affinity level. Lastly, the

Remember the XN bit? The one we had so much fun with on Nyan (LPAE)
because not setting it allows random instruction prefetches to device
memory that hang the system every few thousand boots? Thankfully, we had
always been setting it in the non-LPAE MMU code already...
"When the XN bit is 1, a Permission fault is generated if the processor
attempts to execute an instruction fetched from the corresponding memory
region. However, when using the Short-descriptor translation table
format, the fault is generated only if the access is to memory in the
Client domain, see Domains[...]" - ARM A.R.M. section B3.7.2
Oops. This patch changes our Domain Access Control Register (DACR) to
set domain 0 (the only one we are using) to Client. This means that
access permissions (AP[2:0] bits) become enforced, but they are already
set to full access (0b011). It also means that non-LPAE systems will not
be allowed to execute from DCACHE_OFF memory with enabled MMU anymore.
As far as I can see, Veyron_Pinky has been the only board that does
that.

This patch adds an mmu_config_range_kb() function, which can set memory
types at the 4KB level by chaining a fine-grained page table to an
existing superpage entry. It is only intended for special cases where
this level of precision is really necessary and therefore comes with a
few practical limitations (the area for each invocation must be confined
within a single superpage, and you are not allowed to remap the same
region with mmu_config_range() again later). Since the fine-grained page
tables need some space, boards intending to use this feature must define
a TTB_SUBTABLES() region in their memlayout.ld.
BUG=chrome-os-partner:32848

This patch creates a new mechanism to define the static memory layout
(primarily in SRAM) for a given board, superseding the brittle mass of
Kconfigs that we were using before. The core part is a memlayout.ld file
in the mainboard directory (although boards are expected to just include
the SoC default in most cases), which is the primary linker script for
all stages (though not rmodules for now). It uses preprocessor macros
from <memlayout.h> to form a different valid linker script for all
stages while looking like a declarative, boilerplate-free map of memory
addresses to the programmer. Linker asserts will automatically guarantee
that the defined regions cannot overlap. Stages are defined with a
maximum size that will be enforced by the linker. The file serves to
both define and document the memory layout, so that the documentation
cannot go missing or out of date.
The mechanism is implemented for all boards in the ARM, ARM64 and MIPS
architectures, and should be extended onto all systems using SRAM in the
future. The CAR/XIP environment on x86 has very different requirements
and the layout is generally not as static, so it will stay like it is
and be unaffected by this patch (save for aligning some symbol names for
consistency and sharing the new common ramstage linker script include).

The struct prog serves as way to consolidate program
loading. This abstraction can be used to perform more
complicated execution paths such as running a program

t124 and t132 need to do that in the boot path. Follow
on patches will allow the platform to decide how to
execute a particular program.
Note: the vboot path is largely untouched because it's
already broken in the coreboot.org tree. After getting

It's an unfortunate side effect of our different-archs-per-stage
mechanism that all src/arch/*/Kconfig files are always parsed with no
if blocks to exclude them if they're not relevant. This makes it very
easy to accidentally rely on a Kconfig default set by a totally
different and not applying architecture.
This patch moves a few Kconfigs from ARM and X86 that leaked out like
this into a common Kconfig file for clarity. It also gives ARM64 its
own BOOTBLOCK_CUSTOM mechanism so that it doesn't leech off the ARM one
(currently not used by any board).
In the future, we should maybe prefix all options in the arch/*/Kconfig
files with the architecture name (such as X86_BOOTBLOCK_NORMAL and
ARM_LPAE are already doing), to make it more apparent when they are used
in the wrong place.

I'm planning to change the way the stack boundaries are defined. Rather
than trying to work that into this unsafe, unused and hard to test

The GCC 4.9.2 update showed that the boot_state_init_entry
structures were being padded and assumed to be aligned in to an
increased size. The bootstate scheduler for static entries,
boot_state_schedule_static_entries(), was then calculating the
wrong values within the array. To fix this just use a pointer to
the boot_state_init_entry structure that needs to be scheduled.
In addition to the previous issue noted above, the .bs_init
section was sitting in the read only portion of the image while
the fields within it need to be writable. Also, the
boot_state_schedule_static_entries() was using symbol comparison
to terminate a loop which in C can lead the compiler to always
evaluate the loop at least once since the language spec indicates
no 2 symbols can be the same value.

Provide functionality to create dynamic classes based on program name and the
architecture for which the program needs to be compiled/linked. define_class
takes program_name and arch as its arguments and adds the program_name to
classes-y to create dynamic class and compiler toolset is created for the
specified arch. All the files for this program can then be added to
program_name-y += .. Ensure that define_class is called before any files are
added to the class. Check subdirs-y for order of directory inclusion.
One such example of dynamic class is rmodules. Multiple rmodules can be used
which need to be compiled for different architectures. With dynamic classes,

Ramstage needs an assembly entry point for setting up
the initial state of the CPU. Therefore, a function is
provided, arm64_el3_startup(), that bootstraps the state
of the processor, initializes the stack pointer, and
branches to a defined entry symbol. To make this work
without adding too much preprocessor macro conditions
provide _stack and _estack for all the stages.
Currently the entry point after initialization is 'main',
however it can be changed/extended to do more work such
as seeding the stack contents with tombstones, etc.

Because we had no stack on romcc boards, we had a separate, not as
powerful clone of printk: print_*.
Back in the day, like more than half a decade ago, we migrated a lot
of boards to printk, but we never cleaned up the existing code to be
consistent. Instead, we worked around the problem with a very messy
console.h (nowadays the mess is hidden in romstage_console.c and
early_print.h)
This patch cleans up the generic code pieces to use printk() on all
non-ROMCC boards.
Our two remaining ROMCC boards are fixed up in this commit:
bifferos/bifferboard and dmp/vortex86ex.

ARM processors save the PC value in the Link Register when they handle
and exception, but they store it with an added offset (depending on the
exception type). In order to make crashes easier to read and correctly
support more complicated handlers in libpayload, this patch adjusts the
saved PC value on exception entry to correct for that offset.
(Note: The value that we now store is what ARM calls the "preferred
return address". For most exceptions this is the faulting instruction,
but for software interrupts (SWI) it is the instruction after that. This
is the way most programs like GDB expect the stored PC address to work,
so let's leave it at that.)

The following patches had to be squashed
to properly build all the different ARM boards.
ipq8064: storm: re-arrange bootblock initialization
The recent addition of the storm bootblock initialization broke
compilation of Exynos platforms. The SOC specific code needs to be
kept in the respective source files, not in the common CPU code.
As of now coreboot does not provide a separate SOC initialization API.
In general it makes sense to invoke SOC initialization from the board
initialization code, as the board knows what SOC it is running on.
Presently all what's need initialization on 8064 is the timer. This
patch adds the SOC initialization framework for 8064 and moves there
the related code.

arm: Redesign mainboard and SoC hooks for bootblock
This patch makes some slight changes to the way bootblock_cpu_init() and
bootblock_mainboard_init() are used on ARM. Experience has shown that
nearly every board needs either one or both of these hooks, so having
explicit Kconfigs for them has become unwieldy. Instead, this patch
implements them as a weak symbol that can be overridden by mainboard/SoC
code, as the more recent arm64_soc_init() is also doing.
Since the whole concept of a single "CPU" on ARM systems has kinda died
out, rename bootblock_cpu_init() to bootblock_soc_init(). (This had
already been done on Storm/ipq806x, which is now adjusted to directly
use the generic hook.) Also add a proper license header to
bootblock_common.h that was somehow missing.
Leaving non-ARM32 architectures out for now, since they are still using
the really old and weird x86 model of directly including a file. These
architectures should also eventually be aligned with the cleaner ARM32
model as they mature.

To find the coreboot tables, the payload has historically searched for their
signature in a predefined region of memory. This is a little clumsy on x86,
but it works because you can assume certain regions are RAM. Also, there are
areas which are set aside for the firmware by convention. On x86 there's a
forwarding entry which goes in one of those fairly small conventional areas
and which points to the CBMEM area at the end of memory.
On ARM there aren't areas like that, so we've left out the forwarding entry and
gone directly to CBMEM. RAM may not start at the beginning of the address space
or go to its end, and that means there isn't really anywhere fixed you can put
the coreboot tables. That's meant that libpayload has to be configured on a
per board basis to know where to look for CBMEM.
Now that we have boards that don't have fixed amounts of memory, the location
of the end of RAM isn't fixed even on a per board level which means even that
workaround will no longer cut it.
This change makes coreboot pass the location of the coreboot tables to
libpayload using r0, the first argument register. That means we'll be able to
find them no matter where CBMEM is, and we can get rid of the per board search
ranges.
We can extend this mechanism to x86 as well, but there may be more
complications and it's less necessary there. It would be a good thing to do
eventually though.

This patch changes the ENTRY() macro in asm.h to create a new section
for every assembler function, thus providing dcache_clean/invalidate_all

have. This requires a few minor changes of moving around data (to make
sure it ends up in the right section) and changing some libgcc functions
(which apparently need to have two names?), but nothing serious.
(You may note that some of our assembly functions have data, sometimes
even writable, within the same .text section. This has been this way
before and I'm not looking to change it for now, although it's not
totally clean. Since we don't enforce read-only sections through paging,
it doesn't really hurt.)

arm_invalidate_caches() function and surrounding bootblock code to
initialize SCTLR and replace it with an all-assembly function that takes
care of cache and SCTLR initialization to bring the system to a known
state. It runs without stack and before coreboot makes any write
accesses to be as compatible as possible with whatever state the system
was left in by preceeding code. This also finally fixes the dreaded

This patch switches every last part of Coreboot on ARM over to Thumb
mode: libpayload, the internal libgcc, and assorted assembly files. In
combination with the respective depthcharge patch, this will switch to
Thumb mode right after the entry point of the bootblock and not switch
back to ARM until the final assembly stub that jumps to the kernel.
The required changes to make this work include some new headers and
Makefile flags to handle assembly files (using the unified syntax and
the same helper macros as Linux), modifying our custom-written libgcc
code for 64-bit division to support Thumb (removing some stale old files
that were never really used for clarity), and flipping the general
CFLAGS to Thumb (some more cleanup there as well while I'm at it).

The flags used to compile libgcc may make it incompatible with the code it's
linked against, and/or the hardware it's going to run on. Rather than try to
tease the right libgcc from the compiler, lets just leave it out and use our
own implementations of the necessary functions.
Most of these implementations were taken from the Linux kernel, except for
uldivmod.S which was taken from a CL originally written for U-Boot by
Che-Liang Chiou in December of 2010. It was modified to not use the CLZ
instruction on machines that don't have it, anything earlier than ARMv5. The
top block was taken from an earlier version of the same CL which didn't use
CLZ in that spot. The later block was written from scratch.

difficult to work with as its own section because the linker will complain if
you try to move backwards as it lays out memory. If the console header is
treated as an actual blob of memory which has to be put in the image, we'd
have to predict where to put it so that it isn't before something with a lower
address or after something with a higher address. Symbols, on the other hand,
can be defined arbitrarily.

This patch fixes the remaining few bugs in our shiny new cache iteration
by set/way/level algorithm to actually make it work: It makes it start
from cache level 0 (previously it would always start at LoC and be
"done" instantly), fixes up the two shifts that isolate the set bits at
the end (which didn't seem to account for the fact that the first shift
affects the second), and throws an S bit on that last shift so that it
actually affects the conditionals after it.
In addition, also moves the next_level block to the top so that we can
share (and thus eliminate) some code at initialization, and turns the
whole thing into a thrice-instantiated macro to create functions that
fit our existing interface.

It's a beautiful piece of code that manages to run on only caller-saved

loop, and it's BSD-licensed to boot (which we need for libpayload).
Unfortunately it's also not quite correct, but I can fix that. Pulling

actually not that bad, but they could use an update. This patch pulls in
the current Linux upstream versions of those files, removing some old
U-Boot cruft such as checking whether the two pointers in a memcpy() are
equal (really now?) or side-stepping the R8 register because it was used
for special purposes. It also returns to the good old Linux
ENTRY/ENDPROC macros since we have them now anyway, and straightens out
the W() macro in preparation for unified thumb support.

This is essentially a revert of commit 10bd772d. The CAR_MIGRATE
mechanism is only useful to migrate variables from a special region
(e.g. cache as RAM) into DRAM-backed CBMEM between different parts of
the romstage (it does not persist into ramstage). Since ARM devices use
SRAM for which there is no reason to become inaccessible in later parts
of the romstage, this mechanism isn't useful for them. Removing it makes
the romstage.ld script much simpler, which has the nice side-effect of
putting the BSS at the end of the memory image (so that cbfstool can
actually figure out that it doesn't need to be part of the ROM image).

The exception_test() mechanism might have been useful when exceptions
were first implemented, but now that they are pretty stable it's really
not necessary anymore (especially not on every single boot in production

having exceptions in stages that might not have paging turned on yet,
it's better to remove that completely.

There are ARM systems which are essentially heterogeneous multicores where
some cores implement a different ARM architecture version than other cores. A
specific example is the tegra124 which boots on an ARMv4 coprocessor while
most code, including most of the firmware, runs on the main ARMv7 core. To
support SOCs like this, the plan is to generalize the ARM architecture so that
all versions are available, and an SOC/CPU can then select what architecture
variant should be used for each component of the firmware; bootblock,
romstage, and ramstage.

ARM: Split out ARMv7 code and make it possible to have other arch versions.
We don't always want to use ARMv7 code when building for ARM, so we should
separate out the ARMv7 code so it can be excluded, and also make it possible
to include code for some other version of the architecture instead, all per
build component for cases where we need more than one architecture version
at a time.
The tegra124 bootblock will ultimately need to be ARMv4, but until we have
some ARMv4 code to switch over to we can leave it set to ARMv7.

Provide functionality to create dynamic classes based on program name and

takes program_name and arch as its arguments and adds the program_name to
classes-y to create dynamic class. Also, compiler toolset is created for the
specified arch.
With dynamic classes,
this is possible.

Currently, since we only have one ARM SOC that uses or supports multitasking,
arch_get_thread_stackbase returns CONFIG_STACK_BOTTOM for the thread stack.
We may end up having to make a cpu-specific function that arch_get_thread_stackbase calls,
but let's avoid adding complexity until we're sure we need to. We also wish to avoid
creating Yet Another Config Variable but will do so if pressed.
The switch code only saves r4-r11 and lr, which is consistent with the standard.

On x86, cpu_info lives at the top of stack. Make the arm do that as
well, as the threading model needs that and so will multicore support.
As part of this change, make the stack size a power of 2.
Also make it much smaller -- 2048 bytes is PLENTY for ram stage.
Note that the small stack size is counterintuitive for rom stage. How
can this work in rom stage, which needs a HUGE stack for lzma? The
main use of STACK_SIZE has always been in ram stage; since 2002 or so
it was to size per-core stacks (see, e.g.,
src/arch/x86/lib/c_start.S:.space CONFIG_MAX_CPUS*CONFIG_STACK_SIZE
and, more recently, thread stacks. So, we define the STACK_TOP for rom
and ram stage, but the STACK_SIZE has no real effect on the ROM stage
(no hardware red zones on the stack) and hence we're ok with actually
defining the "wrong" stack size. In fact, the coreboot_ram ldscript
for armv7 sizes the stack by subtracting CONFIG_STACK_BOTTOM from
CONFIG_STACK_TOP, so we replicate that arithmetic in bootblock.inc
Observed stack usage in ramstage:
BS: BS_PAYLOAD_LOAD times (us): entry 1 run 153887 exit 1
Jumping to boot code at 23104044
CPU0: stack: 02072800 - 02073000, lowest used address 020728d4, stack used: 1836 bytes
entry = 23104044
Which means we do need 2K, not 1K.

ARM: Fix cache cleaning operation.
There was no behavior defined for OP_DCCSW in dcache_op_set_way, so it
silently did nothing. Since we started using that to clean the cache between
stages and I have a change that enables caches earlier on, this was preventing
booting on pit.

libpayload: Fix data cache cleaning on ARM.
A similar fix was made to coreboot where OP_DCCSW was silently not doing
anything in dcache_op_set_way.

On SVR4-derived platforms, the character `/' is treated as a comment
character, which means that it cannot be used in expressions. The
`--divide' option turns `/' into a normal character. This seems to be
needed with our local build of binutils since we don't yet use the
internal assembler/disassembler of the Clang tooling.
